Our Group Decision
For our assignment we as a group decided to work on creating a graphic novel highlighting the pressures of college and that with a little help we can achieve our goals and aspirations
Comic Layouts
I decided to work on different comic layouts using a geometric style in order to make the illustrations stand out. I made this in illustrator and tried working with things such as vibrant colors different shapes for the display boxes of the illustrations, as well as speech boxes for the narrations of the novel.
My design Process
For the design process I did the following things in my design process in preperation for making our novel through sketch.(note: the inspiration I chose for this art style was inspired by characters from the classic novels the Beano, Dastardly Dan and the Dandy which can be seen under this paragraph) this included the following.

Video Idea
I had the Idea to make a short video with narration and voice actors to say out the stories narration and what the characters say. I also chose to introduce this video from a live action perspective showing the character heading to school until he gets to his first shot from the novel and then transfers to the comic version. This meant I had to storyboard my shots as well as choose the soundtrack I wish to use for my videos intro. The song is Dontan Negrin & Prismatic Mantis - Pure Imagination (Future James Trap Remix) which is linked here and below. I chose this song because it suits not only the tired dozy morning intro we shot for the video but also the aspect of following your dreams and not being afraid to be creative/ different a theme that is addressed in our novel in my opinion. Scene 1: Description:Outside of college. Harry is looking at the entrance building,his back to the viewer.
Scene 2: Description: We see the front of Harry.He smiles,feeling confident and excited.Then he takes his first steps into the entrance.
Scene 3: Description: Lecture hall. A Lecturer is giving an introduction Lecture,
Narration: "Ever since he was little he wanted to make cartoons".The students are sitting, most of them looking bored Harry smiles,looking determined.
Scene 4: Description:Harry is sitting in a lecture. Holding up his hand to ask a question.
Narration"and he's ready to work hard to achieve this dream!".
Scene 5:Description: Harry is sitting in a lecture. Holding up his hand to ask a question.
Narration:"At first it goes well".
Scene 6: Description:Harry is sitting at a desk,working on is laptop.
Scene 7: Description: A clock on a wall with a calendae pages falling down.
Narration: But then the deadlines increased".
Scene 8: Description: Harry working at his desk, looking stressed as he's surrounded by two large stacks of paper and a bunch of computers working furiously, to hammer the point home.
Narration: "As did the workload".
Scene 9: Description: Harry looks absolutely stressed, red sleepless eyes, bags under his eyes, messy hair while clocks, calendar pages and assignment papers circling his head.
Narration:"Sadly so did his stress".
Scene 10: Description: Harry is sitting at his desk, his head in his hands.
Narration: "it chipped away at poor Harry's self confidence . The more he worked , the worse he felt his work got and the more he felt his dream slipping away".
Scene 11: Description: we see Harry drawing on a sketchbook
Scene 12: Description:Harry draws a big line through the picture.
Harry:"Dammit!".
Scene 13: Description: Harry throws his sketchpad on the ground.
Harry:"Terrible! It all looks terrible! Why cant I do this?!"
Scene 14: Description:Harry throws his sketchpad to the ground.
Harry: (off panel)(sigh) "I give up".
Scene 15: Description: Katie sees Harry leaving the room.
Scene 16: Description: She picks up the sketchpad
Narration: This is Katie, one of Harry's classmates.
Scene 17: Description: She looks through the sketchpad, looking amazed.
Katie: "Woah! These are good! How can he hate it so much...?".
Scene 18: Description: In the hallway, Harry is leaning against the wall, rubbing his face as Katie exits the room.
Katie: "Harry?"
Scene 19: Description: Harry looks up at her.
Harry:" Yeah?"
Scene 20: Description: She holds up the sketch pad.
Katie: I saw you throw this away . Are you okay?
Scene 21: Description: Harry holds back tears.
Harry: Y-Yeah...ah who am I kidding, my works trash so I got rid of it...
Scene 22: Description: Katie looks at him,confused and a bit shocked.
Katie: What?! Dude its not trash at all! Its really good!
Scene 23: Harry: R-REALLY?
Scene 24: Description: Katie walks up to him and puts her hand on his shoulder.
Katie: I know you've been having a hard time , but your doing better than you think. You can do this. Ill even help you.
Scene 25: Description: Harry smiles at her.
Harry: Thank You.
Scene 26: Description: Katie smiles back at him.
Narration: So with the help of Katie and his friends, Harry was to gain back his confidence and improve...
Scene 27: Description: Harry is at his desk, working on his laptop, Katie beside him, helping him.
Scene 28: Description: Harry is drawing in his sketchbook, smiling.
Scene 29: Description: Graduation Day. Harry and Katie are standing on stage in their graduation gowns , holding their diplomas, smiling.
Narration:.... And finally achieved his dream.
Scene 30: Description: Jump to a couple of years later , we see Harry is working at a big animation studio happy.
Scene 31: Description One day as Harry is walking back to his desk, with a smile on his face.
Scene 32: He notices a colleague is frustrated as harry looks at them ( Noticing Them).
Narration: Harry Remembers what Katie did for him and decides to help,
Scene 33: Description: Harry Approaches them with a friendly smile
Harry: Hey, you OK?
Scene 34: The final image has the message " A little help goes a long way ".
Note: Changes were made to make the comic more clear when being sketched.
Our Groups Booklet
For Our progression in Group Work Semester 1 we made an A3 booklet to show how we are progressing throughout the assignment. In doing this we produced a booklet quantity of 20 pages in total. The pages I did for this booklet consisted of the following.
