Sam's Booklet Contribution

Sam's Contributions to the Booklet

Sketches (Screenshots of showing my skills)

One of the things that I have done for the last few weeks is that we have used a whiteboard for our group and I went into trying out different animation styles including modern day animation, anime, pop cutesy, chibi style, humanistic, detailed shots and everything else in between. With my progress that I will use as a starting point to help when I am doing some storyboards for the prototype presentation for the following week but I and Dillon will get to making storyboards and enough between us to get them done.
(An image of our group formation and planning out on the first day)

(looking at the different designs and media sources for animation styles for our chosen media (which was unknown at the time)

(one more close up of the up)

(A mix and match of different animation styles that can help decide the style we are trying to go for and test out for the different forms of media we may choose)

( Testing the design of something recent being the Sonic Redesign (mine being the one with the shrugging arms) and from some from the other group members)
(this was a large work in progress but someone did not read my do not erase sign as it was gone when I came back a few days later)

(mainly the more weirder side of animation style more then anything)

(A little bit of positivity that I try to everyone every day and this was no exception)

sketch concept

So as Dillon mentioned himself and I have assigned ourselves into the category of the Visual aesthetic and it is through this that we can show two different aspects to the spectrum and show off each of our own unique styles of drawing skills and so I went off and do a design basing it on the story arc of the first six sectors of the story we have crafted.
(while I could do it in pen I would rather do it in pencil first and then go over in pen when I had the time but here is the design of the first 6 sections of the comic itself)

Location Photos

Being that our story is about two different peoples perspectives going through college then we knew that we had to have to set it in our own college but not make it out like it is (I think) so we went to get some photos for the starting part of the front entrance and of our main character Harry (who is a striking similar look to me)

Mood Boards and Colour Palettes

  1. Stress Colour
For the first option of colour palette in this concept is that it is a shade of a darker colour and that is the colour Palette of Stress

Happiness
On the flip side of the coin we have the colour Palette of calming and peaceful colour that go for very high bright colors to help bring the positive mood that comes from the setting in this Comic story.

  1. Work
So In terms of this being a comic on college in two different perspectives it is important to focus as well on a colour palette that can very In dulcet tone colour when it comes to creating something through honest work.

Love
For the last of the main versions of colour Palettes is that I came across this while I was looking through the story arc that I thought that for some sense that their cold be a spark of love between the two characters and the spark of love of them following their dreams and that is where  I found the colour palette for them

Dillon Booklet Contributions

Booklet Contributions

Hey guys so i just did a write up on work for the parts I am going to place in the booklet for the contribution to the novel and thought id post here what I wrote for you guys to review it before I add it to Canva the next day. Besides that hope you guys are doing well with your bits.

B00121743 Dillon Eagers My topics
Meet the team
Our team consists of five people
Dillon Eagers
Sam Harrison
Nathan Harte
Nathan Ellis
Adam Fleming

Our project concept
For Our groups project we have decided to make a graphic novel that shows the struggles certain individuals have with college. We feel that this links greatly with the theme of Identity as every person has their own experience that defines them and its what you make of your time that defines who you are as a person in following your dreams in the long run.

Our skillsets
For our team collaboration, we determined that we would focus marking out what we are good at individually to divide the workload evenly between the five of us.
Sam Harrison and Dillon Eagers were tasked with the design concepts this included things such as character concepts, storyboards, text styles etc.
Adam Fleming and Nathan Ellis were tasked with researching aspects for the project both primary and secondary. This included things such as target Audience, Influences through different types of media, Concept boards based on the word Identity, sketches of what we think Identity is and themes based on Identity.
Nathan Harte was tasked with writing the scripts/ story for the graphic novel as writing stories is his specialty when it came to making the novel as it is one of the most important aspects we had to tackle before starting work on the storyboards.

Character Designs/Concepts
In total Dillon did twelve-character concept designs for both the female and male character in the graphic novel (six sketch variations/designs per character).

Storyboards
For storyboard Both Sam and Dillon worked on them. In total three were produced. One was a pencil sketch, and two were done with fine liner in a more comic like beano style. Boxes were also added in one concept to present text/dialog and narration for the comic in a more stylish way. In the pencil sketched style text was added to represent the noise made by objects such as the Taps and clicks f a computer keyboard or the music notes added t give the impression someone is listening to music.

Comic styles/layouts
The comic styles/layouts Dillon made in illustrator that way he could make sure the size of the page was the same for every layout, as well as to  make sure the lines were straight even ,which would have been a challenge if they were each drawn out. It was also convenient to have the page layouts layout’s saved in case they needed to be reused.

Planning our next stage
For the next stage of our group project, we have begun looking at the following concepts.
·         Getting the Script for novel finalized
·         Looking at colors/ art styles for comic design
·         Looking at other mediums to implement the comic to (short video, online readable game etc)
·         Sketching out each scene of the script
·         Getting more familiar with the Adobe Illustrator program
Our Original Concept idea
For Our original Idea for a graphic novel we tried converting images we had taken on a dslr camera through a program called cartoonizer, which would make them in a comic book style of format. However, we later decided to draw them ourselves to match the art style of graphic novel we are trying to create more accurately.

Ideas Concepts for progression
Dillon had 3 concept Ideas/ concepts for the progression of the project to go along with the graphic novel we are trying to produce as a group.
Short film 1: The first concept was to take multiple pictures of the storyboard then placing them together in a video to show the novels story playout (possibly add narrator and animation)
Short film 2: The second concept was to make a short film on our graphic novel process almost in a documentary type of format to show people how we made this novel using both old and modern techniques of the comic/ graphic novel industry.
Short film 3: The third concept was to make a short introductory film for the novel having Sam walking to his first day of college before switching to the comic format. ( Note: possibly link this idea with the first concept in some way)
Digital online comic: A digital format of the comic to appeal to an audience from a digital/ online format and to make it easier to acquire from an online format and would be less costly and better for the environment, as it would be less paper wasted from trees.

Conclusion
After reviewing how we have been doing the last few weeks. We feel that we have finally got an idea of what we want to get done and are now beginning to work towards our next stage in our group project for the next semester. We have also found that when doing group work communication is key as without it no one knows what they are working on or how to contribute as part of a group.

(Please let me know your guys thoughts and feedback on the parts I did)
(Note: Each heading is a page section for the booklet so I have done 9 of the pages in total)
